Nagging “Get Started With Office Live” Won’t Go Away In Office 2007

I’ve lived with this issue for some time, but I hadn’t seriously considered it a real issue since I actually like Office Live and I often forget to use it when I have opportunity. But eventually I came to the point where I got the picture, and don’t need the constant reminders every time I open Word, Excel, or any other part of Office 2007.

It has the checkbox at the bottom left that claims to leave you alone if you leave it checked, but it lies. Lies like a dog. Granted the problem is technically a mix of user error and a programming bug, but the root cause is the Office Live Add-In was installed under a different user account, and a particular subkey isn’t applied to each user’s registry. Now I don’t specifically remember having a separate user account, but it’s possible since there was some customization to be done before adding it to my home domain (whose account I’m using now).

Regardless of the actual cause, the fix is easy. I won’t bother with the manual fix this time because there’s a simpler method and I find that even many experienced computer technicians are scared to death to mess with the registry.

Just go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/969144 and click on the “Fix It” button. When the program has run to fix it, you’ll still get the message window pictured above once more, but this time it shouldn’t come back.
